About Us

Formed in 1952, Coventry Mountaineering Club has always maintained a membership keenly engaged in a variety of mountain sports.

Hillwalking and rock climbing are regular activities especially when the weather is fine. In more unsettled conditions, mountain biking and indoor climbing are more popular. The two local walls being the University of Warwick Sports Centre and the The Ballroom Climbing Wall (bouldering) in Coventry city centre. Winter mountaineering is a passion for some with trips to Scotland and Snowdonia.

Summers often see trips further afield to the Alps or North America. France, Spain and the Mediterranean have also seen many visits in the last decade.

The club has a hut in Mid-Wales close to Cadair Idris. Much quieter than Northern Snowdonia the area offers similar activities including multi-pitch rock climbing, good walking, a few great scrambles and sometimes winter climbing.

We have an informal approach and it is usual to meet enthusiastic new friends. With the variable nature of the British climate much of our activity is done at short notice: trips outside of the meets calendar by people who made contact through the club.

More than seventy years after its formation, Coventry Mountaineering Club continues to be a meeting point for those with a passion for the mountains.
